The three doshas

Vata is composed of space and air elements. It is responsible for all movements in the body, such as breathing, circulation, nerve impulses, muscle contraction and mental activity. Pitta is composed of fire and water elements. It is responsible for all transformations in the body, such as digestion, metabolism, vision, intelligence and emotions.
